SUSTAINABLE JEWELRY

Being a sustainable and ethical jewelry manufacturer and the act of giving back have always been deeply rooted in CLL culture.
Starting from recycling programs withing our factory, and the little things that we give back to our community, we do it naturally so we
didn’t feel that we are making extra efforts. And over time, we are making a difference to the people and community around us. And
as we sat down and listed out what we had given back so far, we were surprised with what we have achieved, and made a
difference. We’re passionate about doing good, and here are some of the ways we are doing our part within our organization, and
giving back to our community, our country, and our planet.

Recycled materials

Silver and brass jewelry in its nature can be recycled, thus creating zero
waste. All our metal scraps are recycled back and reused in production. Unwanted jewelry can be sent back and melted down and reuse to
create new jewelry. Our jewelry are made-to-order only. Therefore, we
do not produce extras to stock up, as this depletes our natural resources
faster and creates unnecessary waste when unsold.

100% Recycled polybags

Each year, we use over 3 tons of plastic polybags for jewelry packaging
deliveries around the world. As of Jan 2021, we have transitioned to using
only 100% bio-degradable recycled polybags from our local supplier to
pack all our jewelries to you. Biodegradable plastics are made of organic
(plant base materials) and takes only three to six months to decompose
fully. That’s much quicker than normal plastics that take 400 years! Check
out our recycled polybags with 4 and PE-LD markings.

Green landscape factory

20% of factory premise is landscaped with greeneries of tall trees, green
grass and fish pond. Along with environmental benefits, this natural
beauty covers an area of 1300 sq meter (14,000 sq feet).
Our employees enjoy sitting on green grass and shade from the trees
during break times.

Recycled water

20 years ago, our founder has already thought of recycling water when
building our factory’s third building. Drainage pipes from handwashing
are collected and stored in tanks, and reused to water plants around
the factory. We have been able to reduce water usage by recycling
15% of water in factory and providing green landscape for our employees.

Empowering women

We are proud that 70% of our workforce are women, and we provide gender equality in our workplace. But up until 10 years ago, our management team was made up of 90% men and 10% women. Over the years, we strongly encourage and empower women who are just as talented and capable to take on leadership and management roles. Currently, we are more than ever proud to have 60% women on our management team.

Employs disabled workers

Workers with handicapped legs may not be suitable in some
workplaces, but for CLL Jewelry, this is definitely not an issue. As jewelry
skills requires more on hand movements, we do not discriminate these
special individuals who are equally talented. Currently, we have 5
employees with physical disabilities, and have been working with us for
more than 10 years in polishing, stone setting, and stone sorting positions.

Recycled stones

For so long, we didn’t know what to do with the extra natural and
synthetic stones that we have accumulated over the years. These stones
may be leftovers or broken, off colors, or chipped during production.
Only when we reach out to our community and put these stones to
better a place, we realized that we have achieved zero waste.

  • Our stones are donated annually to Buddhist temples across Thailand for decorative ornaments in temples. Thai people believe strongly that this brings good blessing to company and family.
  • Our stones are also donated annually to jewelry design faculty in universities as teaching materials. Students use these recycled stones for final year jewelry design projects, as stone materials can be quite costly to purchase.

Education

Our children are our future. We provide 4 scholarships each year to less fortunate students in rural university, who has passion in jewelry career. Every summer, we also provide paid internship for 2 university students to gain work experience in our factory and a good exposure to real life working environment.

And the list goes on……

  • 10 years of collecting soda cans pull-tabs for prosthetics. We have been collecting pull tabs of soda cans for donations to make artificial legs for prosthetics for over 10 years. Did you know that every 4,000 tabs can make one prosthetic leg joint? We are proud to say, we probably had helped make 40 artificial legs.
  • Old Calendar donations for Blind Readings. Every January, we collect last year’s calendars to printing houses. Printing houses need calendar’s thick paper to print blind code storybooks for the blind. We have collected over 1,000 calendars so far.
  • Participate in Children’s Day activity in Local Neighborhoods. Every year on Thai Children’s Day that falls on 2nd Saturday in January, CLL provides gifts and free ice cream to local community in 3 different areas, within 1 km of factory.
  • Recycling and Reusing. Doing our part in reducing plastic bag consumptions, we educate and provide each employee a stylish recycle cloth bag to use. We also provide each employee with company water bottles for refills, as the usage of 1-time plastic water bottles were just overwhelming to see. We have also stopped serving visitors plastic straws when we provide water and beverages, as well. A4 papers are reused to write notes on the other side, starting from management team. Used ink & toner cartridges are recycled back to suppliers.
